Ranunculaceae is a family of flowering plants. The family has been universally recognized by taxonomists, and is also known as the "buttercup family" or "crowfoot family". Members include anemones, buttercups, lesser celandine, aconite, and clematis.

The APG II system, of 2003 (unchanged from the APG system, of 1998), also recognizes this family and places it in the order Ranunculales, in the clade eudicots. The family consists of 50-65 genera, totalling about 1,500-2,500 species, mostly of herbaceous plants, but with some woody climbers (such as Clematis). They can be found worldwide.

Some older classifications included peony, Paeonia, in Ranunculaceae but this genus is now placed in its own family, Paeoniaceae.
