Ransom County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 5,890. Its county seat is Lisbon6.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,238 km² (864 mi²). 2,235 km² (863 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.16%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 5,890 people, 2,350 households, and 1,560 families residing in the county. The population density was 3/km² (7/mi²). There were 2,604 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.93% White, 0.19% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,350 households out of which 31.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.10% were married couples living together, 5.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.60% were non-families. 30.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the county the population was spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 5.90% from 18 to 24, 25.40% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 21.20% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 106.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $37,672, and the median income for a family was $44,865. Males had a median income of $35,023 versus $18,772 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,219. About 6.30% of families and 8.80% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.70% of those under age 18 and 8.20% of those age 65 or over.
