Ramona Africa

Ramona Africa, is a noted political activist and one of the founding members of the MOVE community of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is best remembered for a tragedy that happened May 13, 1985.

Wilson Goode, mayor in Philadelphia during this time, along with the city commissioner and the S.W.A.T. team bombed the house John Africa occupied with his followers, including Ramona Africa. This bombing killed all 6 adult MOVE members that were present, along with 5 children, and the resulting fire destroyed six city blocks. Ramona Africa was arrested during this time and released during the mid 1990s.
