[edit] 1911 Indianapolis 500

"1911, DePalma won the first Milwaukee Mile Championship Car race. The next week he won his first Indianapolis 500 driving a Simplex."

The 1911 Indy 500 was won by Ray Harroun. The final result was controversial, as Ralph Mulford filed a protest claiming that he had in fact won, as he claimed to have lapped Harroun when the latter's tire was damaged and he was forced to pit to replace it. However, Mulford pitted shortly after Harroun for the same reason. Ralph DaPalma finished 6th in his Simplex, almost 20 minutes (19:54) behind Harroun. He only won the 500 once, in 1915. That's what it says at the Milwaukee Mile official site, but I don't believe it. I will change it. Royalbroil 02:03, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
