Ralph Glaze
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ralph Glaze was the head coach of the USC Trojans football team for the 1914 and 1915 seasons. He compiled a 7-7-0 record while coaching at USC. Glaze was also the coach of the Trojans baseball team for the 1915 season. Glaze was a graduate of Dartmouth College.
Before Glaze, USC had not played football for the previous three seasons: like many universities at the time, the school had switched to rugby and did not field football teams during the 1911-13 seasons. The highlight of Glaze's brief tenure was the inauguration of the long standing series with California (Cal). At the time, Cal was considered a dominant team of West Coast football and Glaze managed to lead USC to a split of their first two games, both in the 1915 season. In addition, Glaze also coached USC in its first games against two other future Pac-10 rivals, Oregon State (1914) and Oregon (1915).
Glaze was succeeded in 1916 by Dean Cromwell, who was coincidently USC's football coach before the switch to rugby.
