Rallye des Pharaons

The Rallye des Pharaons is an FIM sanctioned event that takes place in Egypt, with Cairo being both the start and finish point, and covers 3,100 km. It is similar in format to the Paris Dakar Rally in that it takes place in desert conditions and cars, trucks, and motorcycles are all permitted to compete. For 2004, Rallye des Pharaons ran from September 25 to October 4.
Tragedy struck on September 29 2004 when 3-time Paris Dakar Rally winner Richard Sainct was killed when his motorcycle ran off the course. [1] [2]. KTM, who Sainct rode for, pulled all other factory racers from the rest of the rally in respect for Sainct.
