Rainow
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rainow is a small village in Cheshire, UK near Macclesfield, Bollington and Kettleshulme. It sits on the River Dean. Surrounded by farmland, Rainow is bleak all year round but has an annual Church Fete with tea marquee, tug of war between the local pubs and a fell race up Kerridge Hill that overlooks the rather desolate village. Rainow has 3 pubs and did have a shop, but sadly it closed because of the village's extremely bad economy since the mining stopped, 10-15 few years ago. The local landmark, White Nancy is a tent shaped piece of rock with no purpose and is on the northern end of Kerridge Hill. Once a mining village, it sits on the Peak District border and is much frequented by walkers and cyclists riding the surrounding hills. The small Rainow Primary School houses up to 150 pupils and caters for lower attaining pupils and those with special educational needs. The Church of the Holy Trinity erected in 1846 holds decreasing amount of congregations often only around 50 in number partly due to the older residents dying off but is also becoming so run down and neglected, some see it as an eyesore and it may be taken down in the near future.
