[edit] Eraserheads Days

He first achieved fame as drummer for the rock band the Eraserheads, one of the most popular Philippine bands of the 1990s. The Eraserheads had been the band that had ushered in the 'Golden Time of Music' in the Philippines. Even more bands started coming out after the influence in music of the Eraserheads. They defined their generation and those that came after them. They were made up of Ely Buendia (Main Vocalist,Guitarist), Marcus Adoro (Back-up vocals, Lead guitarist), Buddy Zabala (Back-up vocals, Bassist), and Raimund Marasigan (Back-up Vocals, Drummer/Guitarist). Raimund even had a nickname -- Lemon. All of them came from U.P. -- University of the Philippines. The band became a hit enough that many even call them "The Beatles of the Philippines" (Ely Buendia is dubbed as the Philippine John Lennon and Raimund, Paul McCartney). The Eraserheads started 1989 and lasted up to 2004.

The Eraserheads were able to release 12 albums through out their career:

  • UltraElectroMagneticPop! (1993)- debut album
  • Circus (1994)
  • Cutterpillow (1995)
  • Fruitcake (EP) (1996)
  • Fruitcake (1996)
  • Bananatype(EP) (1996)
  • Sticker Happy (1997)
  • Aloha Milkyway (1998)
  • Natin 99 (1999)
  • The Singles (2000)
  • Carbon Stereoxide (2001)
  • Eraserheads Anthology (2004) - a compilation of many of their songs

They were also able to release an 'official' album and an 'unofficial' EP: Pop-U! (1989)- the name was used in reference against a Recording company who said they weren't 'Pop' enough, like their debut album, which they combined with a certain weapon from the hit - classic anime 'Voltes V (five)' and Please Transpose (EP) (2004) - their vocalist then was no longer Ely Buendia, rather Kris Dancel, the reason for the name was that because Kris Dancel's voice was higher pitch so they had to transpose some songs...the last official recording of the Eraserheads

An Eraserheads Tribute Album was recently made, released late in 2005: UltraElectroMagneticJam: The Music of the Eraserheads (2005) - made up of presently famous bands and singers singing old songs of the Eraserheads.

In 2002 vocalist Ely Buendia left the band and made up another band, The Mongols, which later became Pupil, and was replaced by Kris Dancel from the all-girl band Fatal Posporos. The group was later renamed Cambio after lead guitarist Marcus Adoro quit, and they came out with an album called Derby Light.

[edit] Sandwich

The band Sandwich was formed in 1996 with his girlfriend Myrene Academia(Imago)on bass, Marc Abaya on lead guitars and vocals (later replaced by Mong Alcaraz (Chicosci) when the former quit to join Kjwan, Diego Castillo on rhythm guitars, and Mike Dizon (Pedicab and Teeth) on drums. Although existing simultaneously with the Eraserheads, Sandwich provided a heavier, grittier sound, and built up their own fan base. Marc Abaya left the band in 2005 to concentrate on his own band Kjwan and Raimund Marasigan has since taken over as the sole vocalist and lead guitarist. They have released three albums: Grip Stand Throw, Four-track Mind and 2004's award-winning Thanks to the Moon's Gravitational Pull. Currently, they have a new album entitled Five On The Floor which produced its first hit single Sugod.

[edit] Other Projects

Other of his projects include Squid 9. A hip-hop influenced band, Squid 9 started out as a studio act, formed from members of the Eraserheads, Monsterbot and Sun Valley Crew among others. It was soon performing live shows as well.

[edit] Pedicab

In early 2005, Marasigan once again formed another project band: Pedicab. Composed of seasoned artists donning alter egos; Raimund (a.k.a Sugarraims) is on synths and backup vocals; Mike Dizon (of Sandwich and Teeth) a.k.a. Masterbeat is on drums; Jason Caballa (of Twisted Halo and Blast Ople) a.k.a J. Sonic is on guitar and backup vocals; Diego Mapa (of Monsterbot and Cambio) a.k.a. Daddy Maps is lead vocals; and interestingly, acclaimed music video director RA Rivera a.k.a. Just Toni is on visuals and multimedia. They call their music "dance-punk" or humorously called "dunk music". Pedicab’s first album Tugish Takish (the name coming from onomatopoeia of the sounds made by banging on drums) under Vicor music was released later that year.
