Libertine, is the name of a type of silver coin forged and used in the Republic of Ragusa that had its capital city in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The Republic existed from 1294 to 1803 but the coin was not minted for all of that period. [citation needed] The motto for the Republic was Libertas meaning freedom hence the name of the coin.
