Raewyn Connell

Raewyn Connell (formerly Robert William Connell or Bob Connell) is an Australian sociologist who deals critically with culture, media ("ruling class - ruling culture") and political hegemony and became widely known for her research in the field of Gender Studies, especially masculinity (Men's studies). Connell is a professor at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Education and Social Work. Connell developed the concept of hegemonic masculinity to describe the mechanism of masculine domination that influences global, social, political, economic and cultural systems. Her ground-breaking work on men and masculinities has influenced Gender, LGBT, Feminist, Queer and, of course, Men's studies.
