Racing Post Trophy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Racing Post Trophy is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for two-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies run over a distance of 1 mile at Doncaster Racecourse in late October.
It was first run in 1961 as the Timeform Gold Cup, sponsored by Timeform, and was subsequently known as the Observer Gold Cup (1965-75, sponsored by The Observer) and the Futurity Stakes (1976-88, sponsored by William Hill plc), before taking its present name in 1989 when the Racing Post took sponsorship.
Three winners of the race have gone on to win the Epsom Derby the following year. These are Reference Point, High Chaparral and Motivator.
