In the Star Trek fictional universe, Captain Rachel Garrett (played by Tricia O'Neil in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise"), is a Starfleet officer and the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise-C. Garrett is the first woman to command a starship Enterprise, and hers is the franchise's third appearance of a female starship commander.
According to the non-canon Lost Era novels, the Enterprise-C was launched in 2332 with Garrett in command. This was her first command and lasted twelve years.
In 2344, Garrett ordered the Enterprise to respond to a distress call from the Klingon outpost at Narendra III, but the ship was hopelessly outgunned by four Romulan warbirds. During the fighting, the ship entered a temporal rift and emerges 22 years later in an alternate timeline created by the ship's disappearance. In this timeline, the United Federation of Planets is on the verge of losing a war with the Klingon Empire. Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the "battleship" Enterprise-D convinces Garrett that her ship's sacrifice defending the outpost may strengthen relations with the Klingons and prevent the war; Garrett agrees to lead her ship and crew back to 2344 and to certain death. However, Garrett is killed during a Klingon attack before the Enterprise-C's departure. The helmsman, Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard Castillo, assumes command and leads the Enterprise-C back to Narendra III, preventing the war by restoring the timeline (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise").
