Raúl Velasco

Raúl Velasco (1933 - 2006) was born on April 24, 1933 in Celaya, Guanajuato. For 30 years, he was the Mexican host/producer of Siempre en Domingo (Always on Sunday) which is his hallmark contribution to the Latin American world and eventually to other parts of the world where Spanish entertainment programs are broadcast.
While IMDB incorrectly lists Siempre en Domingo [1] as originating in 1984, Raúl Velasco began this program as co-host of a Sunday afternoon special in 1969 called Domingos Espectaculares (Sunday's Specials). It was a very easy-going variety show that launched the careers of many entertainers like Yuri Valenzuela.[2] For generations of viewers, who watched this program, they know that it ran anywhere from a minimum of two hours (near the end) to as long as six of hours of varied entertainment.
A liver illness in 1998 forced Raúl Velasco to leave the show much to the chagrin and sadness of his viewing public. Unfortunately, this illness may have led to his death early Sunday morning, perhaps fittingly, on November 26, 2006 in Acapulco.[3]
One of Raúl Velasco's catch phrases was, "Aun hay mas" ("There's always more to follow"). For a short while, Siempre en Domingo was known as Aun hay mas [4] because Raúl Velasco would always say these words prior to each intermission or commercial. As Frank Sinatra might say or sing, The best is yet to come. . .
