Raúl Silva Henríquez (27 September 1907 - 9 April 1999) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church in Chile.
As founder of the Chilean Solidarity Committee of Co-operation for Peace and the Solidarity Vicarage, Henríquez was an outspoken opponent of Augusto Pinochet, the military ruler of Chile from 1973 to 1990.
After becoming a lawyer, Henríquez was ordained as a Catholic priest on July 3, 1938.[1] He was appointed Bishop of Valparaiso in 1959. In 1961, he was appointed Archbishop of Santiago. He was made a Cardinal in 1962, a position he held until 1983 when he was asked to resigned due to differences with Pope John Paul II.
When Silva Henríquez died at the age of 91 he left Franz König the only surviving cardinal elevated by John XXIII.
