[edit] Meetup

Several users have expressed an interest in having a meetup in Newark in the near future. Would you and/or User:Insaneindian be interested? Raul654 06:33, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I assume we're talking about Newark, not Newark. I might be able to come, but it will depend on when it is. Don't make a decision based on me because I might not make it. InsaneIndian is not in homeroom today, but I'll ask him later in class. I was contacted by a reporter of the Community News (Hockessin, Greenville, etc.) through Wikipedia and he wants to interview me about Wikipedians in Delaware. I assume you were contacted also Mark? If you want to invite him to the meetup, I can get you his contact info. --ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 12:58, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
(1) Yes, Newark, Delawere. Almost certainly on a saturday afternoon (to avoid schedule conflicts) (2) Kevin already interviewed me :) Raul654 16:45, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I've officially announced the meetup - see Wikipedia:Meetup/Newark. If you know anyone else from the area who would be interested, please let them know. Raul654 06:06, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Alright. I added myself to the list. --ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 15:19, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] School stubs

G'day R6MaY89, yes there is a naming convention for stubs see here. Cheers -- Ianblair23 (talk) 00:21, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AWB

Hi there. This is just a friendly notice to be careful when using AWB. This [1] edit is the one I am referring to. The American President automatically redirects to The American President (film) so it wasn't really needed. Normally I wouldn't notice, but when you submitted it, you submitted it as The American President (film) instead of The American President. Happy editing! --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 00:59, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I didn't realize you were working on double redirects. Good work. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 01:40, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page

Hi, nice page design, unfortunately it doesn't work for 800x600 users :( Is there any way to code the curves instead of using an image? Arniep 01:22, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately the code cannot adopt curves like that. Primarily because only good browser's (Firefox for instance) can display that code. Also, wikipedia does not permit CSS code unless each user implements it himself. What I will do is shrink the design to make it fit in 800x600. I plan to change the color anyway (i hate the orange), so I will do it at that time. Thanks for your input.--ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 01:28, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
    • Damn internet explorer users! Arniep 01:40, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
    • This user page has some curves, but no shading. Arniep 02:15, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
      • Yea, because it uses "-moz-border-radius:20px;" but try it in IE. Also, if I used these browser methods, I couldn't pull off the shadow effect. --ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 02:28, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Meetup reminder

Just a reminder that there will be a meetup in Newark, DE, this saturday at 3:00 PM. (Since people have complained after previous meetups that they had forgotten about it, this message is going to everyone listed on Wikipedia:Meetup/Newark) Raul654 15:37, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Abqaiq

I removed the section referring to the terrorist attack because it is not worth a whole section in the main city article. However I left a note linking to it. Let me know if you dissent. Thanks. - Eagleamn 02:05, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sexual Victimization of Native American Women

You voted to keep this article. It is still a very bad article. Since you obviously thought that it has merit, maybe you would be interested in bringing it in line with Wikipedia policy. If you are unwilling or unable to fix this article, maybe you should consider not voting to keep articles like this in future AfD votes. BrianGCrawfordMA 20:21, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Editing of Cab Page

A friend and I, both students at Cab, have been working on the article this afternoon. We threw in a section on nicknames and student culture, based on the decision that they are acceptable on WP because they are part of the culture. If you do not agree, please let me know so we can dialogue and decide what is best for Wikipedia. I have found nothing to dissuade me in WP: NOT, but perhaps your obviously greater familiarity with WP can shed some light on my perceptions? I look forward to hearing from you. -Jim, 11th Grade, Cab Calloway School

Hello Jim. It's nice to meet you, I am a senior at Charter. The reason that that information is not relevant on WP is because, though it is part of Cab culture, it would not be useful to anyone that does not attend your school (or otherwise know your teachers). Think of a real encyclopedia. You would never find info like this in it; the cultural portion of an article should be about how an organization's members relate to members of other organizations. If there is a tradition in Cab theater that somehow carries out into its performances (which are seen be people across Delaware, not just students and parents), then that may be relevant. But the nicknames of a teacher or technical instrument are not. I hope this makes sense to you. I know how frustrating it can be to put a lot of work into writing something only to have it deleted, but I hope that this experience does not turn you off from editing more articles in the future. By the way, if you want to read some school articles that are excellently written, see Stuy, TJHSST or Charter School of Wilmington (only excellent by my opinions, not by consensus). --ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 02:08, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Concerning Linux...

If you have [a Linux distro] that you think I will be able to not be disgusted by, please contact me. Basically I'm looking for one the is a perfect substitute for Windows without the bugs and the price.

You might want to check out the article named Linux is not Windows to find out why you didn't find such a Linux, and uh, I see you haven't tried Linspire yet, which is the most Windows-stribing Linux out there, so you might want to try that as it may be the only one that even closly qualifies for such a requirement.

Personally, I prefer Gentoo, but then again, my requirement for a good OS is not "One that works like Windows". :)

DarkPhoenix 19:56, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! My situation has changed a little since I wrote that, but I appreciate your input. I'll definitely look into Linspire. --ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 01:01, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Last.fm

Hey, I just noticed you're one of my girlfriend's neighbors on last.fm (Her username is NotQuiteGeek)! I just thought that was a rather odd coincidence; maybe the internet's not so big after all... -Varco 03:06, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CS Maps afd

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that all of the CS map articles are being voted for deletion. I figured you'd want to know since you contributed significantly to them. Varco 04:51, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Conservative_notice_board

Hello, I noticed that you identify as a conservative Wikipedian. So I would like to invite you to post any conservative issues you might have over at the new project page, Wikipedia:Conservative_notice_board. Thanks. --Facto 05:38, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kent-Meridian High School

Per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kent-Meridian High School, I just thought you'd like to know that the consensus for High School articles now appears to be swinging back in favor of deletion. So this may indicate the beginning of another campaign to remove most High School articles. Your opinion on the AfD article would be appreciated. It might be helpful if a notability standard for High Schools could be agreed upon. Thank you. — RJH (talk) 16:41, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
