R. Umanath

R. Umanath is a communist politician from Tamil Nadu, India. Polit Bureau member of Communist Party of India (Marxist). Born in 1922 in Kozhikode, Kerala. Shifted to Madras during his student days.

Arrested in 1940, in connection to the Madras Conspiracy Case. Passed three years in jail.

Elected to the 3rd and 4th Lok Sabhas from the Puddukottai constituency.

Trade union leader during many years. Former vice-president of Centre of Indian Trade Unions.

Former Tamil Nadu State Committee secretary of CPI(M). Firmly opposed to LTTE and Tamil separatism in Sri Lanka.
