[edit] History
Wingfield was born in London.
According to the biographies published in his books:
- Until 1970 he worked in the sales office of an international oil company writing crime plays for radio in his spare time. The success of his radio work meant that the day job had to go, and he became a full-time writer. His plays have been broadcast all over the world and translated into many languages.
Wingfield's "D. I. Frost" books have been turned into a successful TV series, where David Jason is the celebrated star. The TV series was first broadcast in 1992, and has won numerous prizes since. Jason has also recorded abridged audiobook adaptations of the five novels in the series. Unabridged adaptations were recorded in the early 1990s by Robin Browne and Stephen Thorne.
Wingfield is married, has one son, and lives in Essex, England.
