R-Sword
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
R-SWORD is a fictional giant robot from the Japanese video game series Super Robot Wars. It has yet to properly appear in any SRW game, having only been referenced in Alpha 1 and Original Generation 2.
[edit] Description
Since R-SWORD has never actually appeared, the form of the finished mecha is unknown. The incomplete transformed module has been seen however, and appears to be a large sword hilt with two short blades at the top. Presumably the blades would be larger on the finished machine. The humanoid form can be guessed at through the appearance of the Huckebein Mk III Boxer, which used the incomplete parts. The mecha would appear to be larger than a normal Personal Trooper, with strong melee combat abilities.
[edit] Technical and historical
Like the RW-1 R-Gun, the RW-2 R-SWORD was developed as a modular weapon for the Super Robot Type-X (SRX). However, due to the many problems the SRX Project had during development the R-SWORD's development was cancelled before it was completed. The incomplete mecha was picked up by the developers of the Huckebein Mk III, who adapted the parts to be used with their design. The Mk III could equip the R-SWORD parts to become the Mk III Boxer, and gain increased melee combat ability. As a final move the Mk III could eject the parts (which would transform into the incomplete R-SWORD) that the Mk III would then use as a flying board to ram the enemy with. While R-SWORD never came to be, the concept can be seen on the SRX's successor, the SRX Altered Banpreios. Banpreios' S.Z.O Sword has twin blades very similar to those seen on the R-SWORD, and its quite possible that the weapon was built into the machine as standard, rather than using a separate weapons module.
[edit] Notes
While R-SWORD never appeared in the Alpha timeline, the original SRX remains in use in the Original Generation timeline so it is possible, though unlikely, that R-SWORD will make an appearance in a future OG game.
