[edit] Description

The R-GUN is a humanoid machine with a very sleek design. It is colored in a shade of dark purple. Various linings nad decoration of white and orange are apparent on various places on the body. The head of the unit uses a visor. The R-GUN Powered is slightly modified and now carries two large launchers on each shoulder.

[edit] Technical and historical

The RW-1 R-GUN was developed as a modular weapon for the Super Robot Type-X (SRX). During the testing stages, it was referred to as "Argun". R-GUN seems like a normal mecha, but can transform into Metal Destroyer (Metal Genocider in the original Japanese version) mode to become a large gun which SRX can use in combat. The R-GUN was given a Personal Trooper mode so it could fight independently and not stay in the gun form all the time. Since it uses the T-LINK System, the pilot needs to be a psyco driver to bring out the most of the mech (in the OG2 game, Viletta is not psychic, but can still pilot the mech, minus the T-LINK Boomerang). The engine is a powerful Tronium Engine which is saved for when the Metal Genocider mode is utilized by SRX. Any other time the engine is usually suppressed.

The R-GUN would be piloted by Major Ingram Prisken - leader of the SRX Team. Later on, it would be piloted Viletta Vadim and be upgraded to the RW-1P R-GUN Powered (alternatively, the player could recruit Levi Tolar and have her pilot it). In the Original Generation games, Ingram would take the R-GUN with him and make it into R-GUN Rivale by exposing it to the Zfylud crystal. As the R-GUN Rivale, its armor takes on a violet crystalline appearance, and it loses its ability to transform into the Metal Genocider mode. It does however, gain incredibly powerful internal weapons to compensate for the loss of the transformation ability.

[edit] Debut Appearance

The R-GUN first appeared in the Banpresto role-playing game Super Hero Sakusen (Super Hero Operations) along with other Banpresto original characters that were to appear in the then upcoming Super Robot Wars Alpha (also referred to as "SRW@"). Such characters include Ingram Plisken and Viletta Vadim who are pretty much male and female versions of each other (they originally shared the same surname in this game before Viletta's was changed to Vadim in SRW Alpha wherein they are established as rather two separate identities), from which the player can choose the main character to play as. Aside from Ingram and Viletta, the eight characters that were to compose the new set of eight lead stars in Super Robot Wars Alpha, take part in the Super Hero Sakusen as non-player characters (NPCs) that provide Ingram/Viletta and co. access to item shops, health recovery facilities, and save functions. Euzeth Gozzo of the alien race called Balmarians' appearance in this game may have also been his first in any. The rest of the 'SRX Team' which the R-GUN is associated with is present and playable in Super Hero Sakusen.

In this game, R-GUN was built by Howard from Gundam Wing. R-GUN Powered's ability to transform into a gunlike weapon for the SRX was first featured here as well.
