R-100 Series
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The R-100 Series is a series of fictional mass-produced robots which feature heavily in the TimeSplitters videogame series. With each game in the trilogy there is a new model of the robot, and each change in physical appearance. It starts with the R-108 in TimeSplitters and the most recent was the R-110 in TimeSplitters: Future Perfect.

[edit] R-108
The R-108 is the first R-100 Series robot in the TimeSplitters series. It appears on the character selection screen as a pile of junk and upon selection rebuilds himself in front of the player's eyes. It is one of the characters selectable in the Spaceways level alongside female robotic sidekick Gretel. The R-108 has a share of chubby and wire-thin limbs and it sees through a black visor. It speaks with a robotic voice, but as it does not have a major role the only noises it makes are winces of pain. Not much is known about this first incarnation except this.
[edit] R-109
The R-109 is the second R-100 robot in the series to feature in a major role. It appears in TimeSplitters 2 as a character in the Robot Factory level, but alas only as the second character when playing the co-operative Story mode. In the single player Story mode Gretel's second incarnation - Gretel MkII - is the playable character. The R-109 is somewhat chubbier in appearance than its predecessor, with more bulk around the chest, waist and thighs. It also wears a pair of dark green trousers and now sees through a white visor. Again, it does not speak.
[edit] R-110
The R-100 robot with the most important role, R-110 plays a vital part in TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. R-110 assists Sgt. Cortez for the 4 of the final 5 levels in the Story mode - the exception being The Hooded Man - and is probably the most important 'assistant' character in the game. Cortez attacks the robot - originally hostile - and modifies its data chip to make it assist him. However, at the end of the game the robot is shut down, with his last words: "I only wanted to be loved". Even so, before his ceasing to exist, he was invincible to everyone, ally or enemy. At first, the R-110 speaks in a typical 'robotic' voice, speaking short simple commands (hostiles sighted) but later in the game the robot becomes infected with a virus and develops a human-like personality, shouting abuse at anyone who attacks him or the player (eat my laser! eat it!) Although he is reprogrammed, R-110 still retains some of his basic programming, as although he no longer harms humans, he still enjoys reminiscing about the way that they "squish." The R-110 is more streamlined and humanoid than the previous models and has an all-black faceplate.
[edit] R One-Oh-Seven
Not actually a part of the R-100 series - or actually a robot - R One-Oh-Seven is a psychologically-deluded man who believes he is a robot. He's featured as a bonus character in the Arcade mode in TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, and has no major role in the Story mode. He wears an all-Lycra catsuit and cardboard boxes painted with robotic features on them. R One-Oh-Seven speaks in a vaguely-robotic voice but still sounds human - a satire of old films where humans attempted robotic voices to little effect.
