Qyntel Woods

Qyntel Deon Woods (born February 16, 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American professional basketball player for the NBA's New York Knicks. After a career at the Northeast Mississippi Community College, Woods was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 21st pick of the 2002 NBA Draft. Coming out of college, Woods was known to scouts as a player with exceptional potential but a history of off-court problems.

In the NBA, Woods proved disappointing, averaging 2.4 and 3.6 points per game in his first two years with the Blazers before being waived and subsequently picked up by the Miami Heat, where he played only three games. The Heat traded him to the Boston Celtics in 2005 offseason. Waived after having played in only three exhibition games with the Celtics, he was subsequently signed by the New York Knicks on December 6, 2005.

Woods has shown some promise under Knicks coach Larry Brown, starting five games and averaging career highs in minutes per game, field goal percentage, points per game, rebounds and assists.

Woods made news headlines in 2004 when he was arrested for animal cruelty relating to his pet dogs. He pled guilty to first degree animal abuse, for staging dog fights in his house, some involving his pit bull named Hollywood. Hollywood, and Woods' other pit bull, Sugar, were confiscated, and Woods was given 80 hours of community service and also agreed to donate $10,000 to the Oregon Humane Society.

In response to this news, the Blazers suspended Woods and eventually waived him.
