[edit] Source for Qui-Gon's birth

What was the source for establishing the year of Qui-Gon's birth? I find it difficult to believe that he was 60 years old in The Phantom Menace, and that he was Padawan to a Master only 10 years older than he.

Also, in the section "Physical Appearance" the notion "forty-year old Qui-Gon Jinn" is used, indicating strongly that he was this age in The Phantom Menace. However, this is a contradiction to the birth year stated above, which would make him 60 years old at that time. Either there is a mistake in the article which needs to get cleared up, or the section should be re-written to make it more comprehensible.

The Phantom Menace Novel states that Qui-Gon is nearing 60. He must look so young because he gets lots of exercise. But if you ask me he looks to be about 55 so 60 doesn't seem to far off.

[edit] Present/Future conflict

OK, I admit it. I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER what this means: "(the Republic Senate is delayed in procedure to prevent future backlash at the expense of any present situation leading to the escalation of Chancellor Palpatine)." Can someone explain what it means to me, or better yet, rewrite it for clarity? Nandesuka

I figured out what the original editor, who wrote that line, was meaning. Hopefully my version is clearer. However I'm not so sure whether he was right in what he was suggesting. Yes the Senate is being manipulated into putting Palpatine into the Chancellor position and then further being manipulated into giving him extraordinary powers. But I'm not sure whether they are being "delayed in procedure" to stop them removing the position and powers, as I think User;128.233.16.240 was suggesting. I'll leave it for someone else to decide. Anyone else think this article could use a re-write? It seems sloppily put together and not totally comprehensive.

I agree. It should atleast be written like the other articles about Star Wars characters. They talk about his actions, and go indepth. I was hoping, when I read this, to learn about Qui-Gon's past.

Actually, we could use the Jedi Apprentice young-adult novels as reference for his past. They tell quite a bit. The Wookieepedian 11:16, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jinn in Islamic Mythology?

Just some minor edits required for that sentence. Jinns are spirits in the Islamic religion. However, they are not dessert spirits and Islam does not have a mythology (neither does any religion). Great job overall.

Long before I read this article and the section about Liam Neeson being unhappy on the set of The Phantom Menace I remember watching an interview of him just before the film was shown. Here, he described that he about called it quits and retiring from movie-making because he wasn't prepared for the physical demands of portraying a Jedi, and this was interpreted as the reason why he "disliked" being on the set. I have forgotten whether it was E! News Daily or Entertainment Tonight that did the interview. This contrasts, however, with this other news report which states his unhappiness with movies in general and not specifically Star Wars.

I have added a "citation needed" link with what I wrote, because I know for sure that the interview exists but I do not know from where; anybody who knows, please kindly supply the citation.

[edit] journal of the whills?

I was doing to fixing on this article and ran across mention of Qui-Gon using the "Journal of the Whills" to strengthen his faith in the Jedi or something like that (details aren't important at the moment). I know that JotW was part of the original title of Episode IV way back, and I believe it was also mentioned exactly once in the novelization for Ep IV, in a manner reminiscent of Tolkien's "Red Book".

Given this history of the term, plus the fact that I have never heard of such a storyline (Qui-Gon reading the journal that is), not to mention that the reference seemed to me to be, well, silly, I removed it for being fanfic.

However, I haven't been reading the EU lately, so it's entirely possible that it was in the newer stuff (although I've read all of the books referenced here aside from the 2002 characters guide). If I did make a mistake, could someone cite/reference it, at least here in the talk, so that I (or anyone else) don't make that mistake again?

[edit] An error!

As I was reading this article I noticed something that was...well...incorrect. Quote: Qui-Gon's first Padawan was Quinlan Vos. This isn't true; the identity of Qui-Gon's first apprentice is unknown. Also, according to Wookiepedia (and most likely other sources too) Quinlan Vos was born in 59 BBY, making him only two years older than Obi-Wan. So it would be impossible for Quinlan Vos to be Qui-Gon's first Padawan. Could someone please correct this? Thank you!
