From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quintin Kynaston (QK) is a local comprehensive secondary school in St. John's Wood in City of Westminster, London.
The school is a well known North London comprehensive which has rapidly imporved its profile in recent years. The school is well known for it's the ethnic diversity of its students and the cultural harmony amongst them. The school is also noted for having a large amount of students gifted in the expressive arts field; Suggs, lead singer of 80s band Madness and RnB singer Shola Ama both attended the school.
The BBC recently made a documentary about the school focusing on its ability, as an inner-city school, to change pupil's lives. The school has successfully created, piloted and reinstated many day-to-day 'school systems' that are now being modelled in other schools across the country. In September 2004 the school received an excellent OFSTED report, a testament to the huge improvements that have been made in recent years.
In September 2003 the British prime minister, Tony Blair, launched the 'Extended Schools' scheme at Quintin Kynaston. In September 2006 (almost exactly 3 years later) he returned to launch the 'Trust Path' programme. Quintin Kynaston was the first school chosen to pilot both schemes.
