Quinn Direct British Masters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Quinn Direct British Masters is a European Tour golf tournament. It was traditionally played in the spring but in 2007 it is moving to September to avoid a clash with The Players Championship, which has been moved to May. It was founded in 1946 as the British Masters and been a fixture on the Tour's schedule since the tour was established in 1972 (apart from a one year gap in 1984), and has had several different names. In the 1980s it was one of the most lucrative events on the European Tour with a prize fund that was as high as third among the tournaments on the schedule, but its status, or at least its relative level of prize money, has declined considerably in recent years. In 2006 the prize fund was £1,800,000, which was converted to €2,622,906 for European Tour ranking purposes.
