Quiescence

Quiescence (kwē-ĕs-ənts) a latin derived English language noun referring to a state of being quiet, still, at rest, dormant, inactive; as an adjective, "a quiescent mind".

  • In this same light, Quiescence can refer to the inactive period of time for volcanos.

In addition, Quiescence may also refer to:

  • Quiescence can also refer specifically to the "rest" state of a cell. Neurons, for example, are quiescent when not firing and sarcomeres (muscle cells) are quiescent when not contracting. See also cell (biology).
  • A quiescent prominence is a long, sheet-like prominence of relatively cool solar material that hangs nearly vertically to the Sun's surface for days or months.
