QuickPar is a computer program that creates recovery information for a file or group of files . If such information is available and some files are damaged or missing then QuickPar may be able to reconstruct the originals from the PAR volumes. It is often used to recover damaged or missing files that have been downloaded through Usenet.
There are two main variant versions of PAR files: PAR1 and PAR2. The latter file format is superior to the first one, and lifts many of its previous restrictions.
QuickPar is free but it is not open source, and contains no spyware. QuickPar is supported under Windows.
QuickPar uses the Reed-Solomon error correction algorithm internally to create the error correcting information.
[edit] Reliability
While many users have not encountered any issues, some users have had issues with QuickPar. There have been reports of the application failing to repair a damaged file, or requiring several runs. The command-line tool also has been reported to have some bugs regarding falsely reporting a repair as failing. There have also been complaints of tech support failing to take responsibility, instead blaming the user's hardware.
It should be noted that QuickPar is a freeware application with no expressed warranty of quality and is not recommended for mission critical usage.
