[edit] Naming issues
- CEGEPs: Should this category be named "Quebec CEGEPs" or "Quebec cegeps"? Circeus 18:57, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC)
- I would say "Quebec CEGEPs", "CEGEPs of Quebec" or "CEGEPs in Quebec"... We'd have to check similar categories to choose which one would be most "standard-like". I agree that "CEGEP" should be plural. I think it should be uppercase; this is the usual convention, from what I know, in the press (it is an acronymn afterall). I wonder if an acute accent should be upon the first "E", however. --Liberlogos 19:18, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- AFAIK, CEGEP has not been lexicalized in English as it has in French ("cégep"), so it should be considered an acronym. The OQLF's GDT lists the English term as "CEGEP", with no accent. --Fbriere 11:01, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Why not simply Category:CEGEPs, since there is no other jurisdiction that has them? (As far as I know). Indefatigable 01:07, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Very well, I'll move the articles ASAP and nominate the cats at WP:CFD
- Done, migrated, cat in nomination for CFD

[edit] Humorists
Just a reminder to everyone that humorist does not mean the same thing in English as it does in French; in English, the word "humorist" exclusively refers to a person who writes and publishes works of comedic literature. A person who performs comedy on stage, or as an actor, is described and categorized as a comedian in English, not as a humorist. You'll need to keep this distinction in mind when writing articles on comedic personalities from Quebec on the English site. Bearcat 22:52, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] What's up with Universities?
User Lionel GM seems to think his interpretation of the Wikipedia Naming Conventions means every page should use (mostly) unofficial English names. Is this OK, or should something be done about this?--132.206.150.33 19:46, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proposition: WikiProject Quebec entities
This project would aim at standardize and write the articles for Quebec regions, MRCs, ridings (federal/provincial), cities, municipalities (of all types), boroughs and districts ("unofficial" boroughs). How many people would be interested in participating in this project? Circeus 19:37, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)
- Why don't you just move this page to: WikiProject Quebec? evrik 13:40, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- Create a WikiProject Quebec and use this as its notice board, also as the Portal's notice board. 70.55.87.131 17:27, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Missing Article
- Your Edward Murphy (Quebec Senator Edward ??? Murphy), short-term appointment to the Senate (1890's) was redirecting to Hollywood Actor Eddie Murphy. I'm changing the redirect to a disambig page (and am currently in the middle of clearing other links), but your two lists should add an Middle initial for this gent (presumably creating a redlinked article need), or otherwise link to the proper article. Best regards // FrankB 16:14, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Les parlementaires depuis 1792
An idle thought, perhaps, but still, and very much in the WikiProject spirit: does anyone know what would have to be done to get permission to translate the very exhaustive set of biographies for every Quebec MNA in history (http://www.assnat.qc.ca/fra/Membres/notices/index.html)? I notice that Les parlementaires depuis 1792 is the one part of the Nat'l Assembly page which is not available in English, so I kind of think they would be glad of the help -- and all the information is available in free anyway. Still, I suspect that approaching them for permission would require a diplomatic and careful approach by someone connected or, at least, with a bit of prestige and credibility on net issues. Jean-Claude Guédon or Paul Cauchon, are you listening? AnotherBDA 03:30, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ice Hockey Defenceman
Please note that User:Jeffness has said that he will change all spelling of defenceman to defenseman in NHL related articles, because it is the *North American spelling* (see talk:defenceman (ice hockey). Since most NHL players have come from Canada, this is seriously prejudicial. 132.205.45.148 19:25, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hey: the issue resolved itself. You're a day late, nothing to see, move along. No need to make a political issue over it. ccwaters 20:36, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
-
- No, the issue of the page move has been resolved. The issue of the spelling in articles is not. Jeff stated he'd change the spelling in NHL related articles to defenseman. 132.205.46.157 02:15, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
