Questron is a fantasy RPG computer game series published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. in 1984. It was developed for the Commodore 64 and Apple II systems.
Questron was the first foray by SSI into the fantasy RPG genre and its release was followed up on by the more expansive Phantasie series.
In Questron the player takes on the role of a young serf who tries to make a name for himself by travelling the lands of Questron to gain power and experience to defeat the wicked Mantor, ruler of the Land of Evil.
The gameplay and graphics are very simple. Questron was mostly in top-down style for the world maps and town encounters, but switched to a 3D style in the dungeons of the Land of Evil.
The game included some interesting features at the time. First, was the addition of 'games within a game'. Several different areas of the game, like the Swamp Cathedral, allowed the character to play in special mini-games which if done successfully will permanently increase strength or intelligence attributes. Also, various casinos about the towns let players gamble to win money.
Another aspect of the game was that various monsters in the game would be immune or more vulnerable to certain types of weapons. The character would have to shift weapons around depending on the monster they were fighting in order to defeat it.
