Queen Haters
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Queen Haters were a 1983 fictional punk rock band that performed on a "Mel's Rock Pile" sketch of the SCTV television program. It featured Martin Short on vocals, Eugene Levy on lead guitar, Andrea Martin on rhythm guitar, Joe Flaherty on bass, and a bald, bespectacled John Candy on drums.
Their one and only performance was the song "I Hate The Bloody Queen", a furious, rambling tune citing oppression by Queen Elizabeth II and advocating anarchy:
- "I'd like to drown the Queen!
- Off the coast of Argentine
- Throw her off a battleship
- With her Falkland war machine!
- She taxes me to death
- I can't afford me dope
- I'd like to get her high
- Yeah, that would make me laugh."
