[edit] Culture
Quaker City is located just northeast of Seneca Lake, and south of the site of the former Paradise Lake amusement park. The amusement park operated in the early 1980's, and by the late 1990's had become an adult bookstore. However, positive changes had been made in the village in the early 2000's, which included new ownership of the town grocery store "Dandy Don's".
In 2004, voters in the village passed a law that would allow the sale of alcohol within village limits, thus bringing an end to Quaker City's status as a dry town. Leota Alwine, the owner of Lingo's Hardware has capatilized on the good fortune and is currently the only place within the city limits that sales beer, which began early in July of 2005. Other businesses within the town include "The Quaker City Cafe" owned by Pat Winters, C & I Tanning owned by Chuck and Irene Simeral, Don's Custom Countertops owned by Donnie Burkhardt, Lions Den adult bookstore, and Shumans Auto Repair operated by Dave Shuman.
If you drive through Quaker City on any given morning you can see the town favorites, Richard and Ryan Perkins frying up some steaks on the grill. If you travel through the town a little bit, you may even see some young kids pull some fish, snakes, frogs, or turtles from the creek. If you never been to Mayberry, this is the closet thing, so come visit Quaker City.
