Quadruple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A quadruple is a term from mathematics, depicting an n-tuple with n being 4. This means it depicts four elements, with the order of the elements carrying meaning. This differs from a set, where the order of the elements is meaningless and where no element could exist more than once. Derived from this abstract meaning, it is used in several other contexts including:

  • Quadruplets refer to 4 children birthed in one pregnancy.
  • A quadruplet can refer to a type of note in music (see tuplet.)
  • Quadruple can refer to a redundant backup system that has 3 secondary systems to take over if the primary fails.
  • A quadruple can refer to a set of four numbers in a given order, for example, describing the location of a point in four-dimensions (much like an ordered pair.)

Alternitavly in football, the Quadruple refers to the winning all three domestic tropheys plus a European trophey.
