[edit] Your move of "Sexually transmitted disease"

I have reverted your move of "Sexually transmitted disease" to "Sexually transmitted diseases and infections". First of all, you did not discuss this move before doing it. There is clearly no consensus for this move at Talk:Sexually_transmitted_disease, indeed a discussion about moving the article to "Secually transmitted infections" decided against that move. Further, please read the manual of style's section on article titles, particularly the use of singular nouns (here). Article titles should be singular (e.g. "Sexually transmitted disease") not plural ("Sexually transmitted diseases").

Please do not change titles of important articles without discussing them first and reaching consensus, and please do not change titles to a form that is against established policy. Thanks, Gwernol 08:14, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] help

I recently have been editing the article for Darrell Anderson but a fellow editor has taken offense to what he calls my "broken english" and "stupid" edits and reverted many of them, which are cited and relevant instead of being helpful and copyediting them, i asked him to be more constructive and collaborate with me and he responded with an arrogant attitude and told me not to edit the article anymore and only the the talk page so he can add in anything i want if he deems it ok, i want to resolve this issueQrc2006 19:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Can you please post diffs, Qrc? Did someone call you stupid? Sarah Ewart (Talk) 19:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes he did User:JBKramer called me stupid, here [1] in an edit summary.

I don't see where he called you stupid. He said, "this is getting stupid." Is that the edit summary you mean? I presume by that he meant the edit war or whatever was going on there was getting stupid. I'm going to look closely at the actual edits, so give me a few minutes, okay. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 20:08, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I believe strongly you are acting in good faith. However, your inability to write in an encyclopedic tone and your unwillingness to allow me to make basic corrections to the article demonstrates that you are not helping. I suggested you propose changes on the talk page and I would make them to the article - you refused. If you cannot learn to write for an encyclopedia, and you will not allow others to do the writing with your suggestions and guidance, then you will not be here long. JBKramer 20:57, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I am begining to feel intimidated by JBKramer, he just threatened me to stop making any edits to the article Darrell Anderson JBKramer: It's time for you to stop. You have made this article worse.Qrc2006 20:44, 3 October 2006 (UTC)}}

He called my edits stupid, again =(}}

Sorry, I took so long, I had problems with my laptop. I went through every edit on that article, and undoubetdly, JBKramer's edits were improvements. You really need to start listening to what people tell you because Wikipedia is a collaborative project. You may start an article, category, template or whatever, but you don't own it and you don't have more rights over anyone else. We don't own anything here on Wikipedia. You need to know that you do have problems with your English. Often when I start a new article, I write it in Word and run a spell check over the text before uploading it. You should consider doing the same thing. Also, I removed your category "White people" because it is divisive and many people would see it as racist to categorise people according to their skin color. I noticed when I went through the edits that someone else had removed it but you put back in. Please do not reinsert it. The category is a redlink and does not exist. I cannot see where JBKramer has threatened you. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 21:20, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Thankyou for your patience. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:36, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding your recent edits to Darrell Anderson

Please do not deliberately introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Darrell Anderson. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you.

The article itself says he is a Conscientious Objector. Please try to understand that respected media sources lump together people into large groups. Please do not remove information such as a category again when it is factually and verifiably correct. You are mistaken. grazon 05:28, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Is there a tag for a page where that goes somthing like this, "THIS PAGE WAS RECENTLY VANDALISED PLEASE KEEP A WATCH OUT"? Furthermore a user, vandalised the page Darrell Anderson, the user is grazon, i warned him on his talk page, he warned me back! he has a history of warnings and blocks, i think hes basically retaliated for my warning, he removed content and added in his opinion and used foul language using rationales such as the media is always right for removing sourced information, he insists that darrell anderson is not a anti war activist and that he is a CO or whatnot, he removed a whole parapragh about his involvement with peace groups and simply added in his definition of a CO (consciencious objector) what can i do. is warning me back in retaliation considered vandalism to my talk page?

[edit] Please review Richmond, California 2006 mayorial race

Please review your article. It is loaded with spelling errors, including in the title. And why is titled under the word race? It is an election, is it not? The word election is not mentioned once in the article and anyone who didn't already know would think you were talking about athletes or something. I don't have time to fix it and was sorely tempted to hit the delete button. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 03:15, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:City Council 2005.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:City Council 2005.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - CrazyRussian talk/email 22:42, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Read the text of {{promophoto}} and decide if your image meets the requirements. If so use it, and it may be fair use for the council, but probably not for each member individually. WP:FUC and WP:FU would tell you what you need to make that determination. - CrazyRussian talk/email 22:55, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] chorioamnioitis

This is a disease characterised by inflamation on the chorionic membrane in the foetus. Your article is nonsense, and I have tagged it as such.--Anthony.bradbury 22:13, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi there; revised article is fine; I will happily try and expand it with you. The spelling fetus/foetus is an example of the difference in usage between the UK and USA. Wiki policy is that articles written by British editors may use, and retain, British spelling, while articles written by American editors may use, and retain, American spelling. There are many, many examples, usually involving the British use of the diphthong. Therefore my spelling in the talk page and yours in the article are both correct within the wiki framework. Happy wikying.--Anthony.bradbury 10:45, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mike Jeffries

Sorry, I put the wrong tag -- I meant to put {{tone}}. The article reads kind of weird, as if it's a short trivia section on his personal views; for a biography, it ought to be more factual: date of birth, importance, early life, professional life, how he got to where he is, etc., etc. Phrases in the article like "He wears pretty much just...", "He is pretty obsessed...", etc. to me read more like a friend's description than like an encyclopedic article. [edit] Your Template:Languages of South America

I was wondering what is your idea with this extremely incomplete template - it lacks about 95% of the languages of south america (and the ones it does have are mostly non-indigenous languages or dialects). If we make a complete template it will include several hundred languages most of which have no articles yet - but if we don't make it a complete list it will be misleading. If you wan't an idea about just how many languages a complete list of south american languages would hav to include you can look at this list which only lists the endangered languags of south america. I think it would probably bee best to delete the template and just make a supercategory to hold all the categories of languages of southamerican countries. I have started a discussion on the template talk.Maunus 10:29, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with Maunus on all his points. The template is both radically incomplete and radically unrepresentative in its present form - it's better not to mention any languages at all than to give the list shown: that's the first problem with it. The second problem is that if we were to include all the languages, the list would have to be very long indeed, and hardly practical, I would think. Plus, if we want such a list, who is going to compile it, and how? I think it should be deleted as Maunus suggests, and his idea of a supercategory also sounds good to me.
Qrc2006, no hard feelings! I think I understand how you came to produce this, and I don't think any malice was intended on your part (or on mine). Since the languages that appear in the list are linked to Wikipedia articles, I assume you worked backwards from the articles you found to compile the list. I don't know what procedure you followed to identify the language articles, but you probably missed some in the process. And anyway, most South American languages would not have articles at this time. Perhaps the list would be justifiable not as a list of South American languages but as a list of languages spoken in South America that have Wikipedia articles, but that would need to be made very plain in order not to mislead the casual reader of the encyclopedia who takes it for a list of languages as such. --A R King 16:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Qrc2006,
I have one semester paper due tomorrow, three due next week, and two final exams the week after that, so I can't chat long! I wanna say I welcome your interest in South American languages, and languages in general. There are tons upon tons of things that need to be done! Another person helping is always welcome. :-)
I like the template you started; it looks good. But unfortunately.. a template of all the languages in South America is gonna get huge. It will cover up the entire page, if you manage to list anything near all the languages. It just won't work out the way you probably envisioned it.
As i said, there is tons of work that needs to be done. For example, there are Articles with NO ISO code that probably need the {{language}} template added correctly. That template needs to be made the correct language-family color, needs to have an ISO code added, etc.
Moreover, the structure of your template may be reusable in some other area. we could think about that and discuss it over time.
But right now, I hope you'll see why the template of South American languages is just gonna grow to be the Template that Ate Tokyo. It will be too huge and unmanageable.
Thanks, and talk to you later--Ling.Nut 14:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Very well put, Ling.Nut! ;-) --A R King 16:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your template creation

Hi Qrc2006 - it is a great thing to have someone who knows and likes to make templates about languages around, but it would be nice if we could try and talk a bit about which kinds of templates we need and for which kinds of articles we want to use them. Why a template for official languages for example? (and by which definition of oficial?) Why a template for southamerican languages with more than 1000 speakers? (why 1000? and why southamerican). I am not saying that they are not useful - but I am saying that it would be more useful if you worked together with other editors working on southamerican nlanguages on defining what is more needed than other things. I hope you don't take offense, none is intended you are doing good work. Maunus 09:43, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Although I am not myself very knowledgeable about South American languages (I know something about Central American ones), I would support this suggestion by Maunus, and if the community of "editors working on South American languages" agrees to the idea of an open discussion to examine the question of what (if any) templates are useful or necessary or indeed feasible in this area, I will give my moral support. I think however that it is also worth saying that while ambitious macro-schemes like this may have some purpose, the most important work of all needs to be done at a slightly more "micro" level. I'd rather have one excellent description of a single South American (or any other) language, especially if it is a little-known and possibly endangered one and if the description makes a positive contribution to making it better known or improves its chances of survival (but then that's just a personal bias of mine!) than a hundred templates! There is just soooooo much work that needs to be done, and languages that are crying out to be saved from oblivion and extinction, and of course people's rights to keep and carry on using their own heritage languages being denied and violated all over the world, and we need more help, more talent, more people with the will to do something about it. Let us work together and let us work hard! --A R King 10:12, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Band2-abandoned-2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Band2-abandoned-2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Band2-abandoned-2.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Band2-abandoned-2.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 20:11, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Abercrombie & Fitch

Thanks for your cleanup of vandalism to Abercrombie & Fitch. However applying the {sprotected} tag does not actually protect an article. In addition you placed a block notice on User:70.22.201.184. This is completely inappropriate. That user has not been blocked, so your notice was misleading; that user had made one edit and would never be blocked after a single edit, so your attempt to intimidate the user was a massive violation of out policy of assuming good faith. Finally as you are not an admin you may not block users. Pretending that you are is a serious matter. If you do anything like this again I will block you for disruption. Please take this warning very seriously. Gwernol 23:12, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Chi Psi brothers

I am concerned about the articles you have tagged with the Category:Chi Psi brothers. While some of these are clearly correct, others are simply wrong - for example the Merrill Lynch article is about the company and clearly should not be in that category since companies cannot be members of a fraternity. In other cases you have added the category to articles with no evidence that the subject was a member, such as Thomas Brackett Reed and Richard Wilbur. If you want to include people in the Category:Chi Psi brothers you must include a citation of at least one reliable source in the article that shows this category is valid. [edit] Admin coaching, etc.

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.
