Is a small city/suburb in Israel, located 12km north of Haifa in the Haifa District. It is part of a cluster of small cities informally known as HaQerayot.

The population of Qiryat Yam is about 38,000 (end of 2004), of whom a large percentage are new arrivals from the former soviet union ,north Africa and Ethiopia . The average Qiryat Yam income is about 4,500 NIS per month, (almost 2000 NIS below the national average).

There are about 10,000 pupils in Qiryat Yam, and three Junior High schools. There are also eight elementary schools and 15 preschools.

The city has a beach, a park next to it and several parks remoted, though leading to the beach of the Mediterranean Sea.

Its spreads between Qiryat Haim a part of Haifa (a part without municipal authority) from the south, industry area Tsor Shalom to the north, the Mediterranean from the west and a rail road crossing between Kiryat Motzkin to the east.

It is mainly divided into 6 areas ,representing neighbourhoods in the city-

  • Kiryat Yam D (Dalet)- a mixed Ethiopian and former Soviet block population
  • Kiryat Yam C (Gimel)-informally known as "little Beirut", in which has a large concentration of ugly people.
  • Kiryat Yam B (Bet)-pretty boring neighbourhood with nothing special in it.
  • Kiryat Yam A (Alef)-"normal" neighbourhood.

the latter are the old neighbourhoods of the city and 2 new one's :

  • Savyoney Yam to the north-a 2-3 story high cottage/villa neighbourhood. Most of the residents are total nerds who like to touch themselves while watching animal planet.
  • Psagot Yam to the south a mixed 2-3 story high cottage-villa and luxurious 12 story high buildings with balconies and the higher stories as penthouses.
