Qingxi (Chinese: 清溪; pinyin: Qīngxī) is an industrial town located in the western part of Dongguan prefecture-level city, Guangdong province, China. The town is situated in a somewhat mountainous region close to the Pearl River Delta. It is west of Shenzhen, and approximately 60 kilometers from the border with Hong Kong. Qingxi has an area of 143 km², and a population of approximately one million, of which just 70,000 are local. Many of the people came to the town from surrounding rural areas to work.
Economically, Qingxi has specialized in the electronics industry[1] , particularly in high-tech areas such as the manufacture of computer monitors, motherboards, and other computer peripherals. According to the town's official website, foreign direct investment currently totals over US $2 billion, with some 750 companies investing in the area. As of 2003, Qingxi's GDP amounted to 25 billion RMB.[2]
Recent new additions in the city include a high-rise five-star western-style hotel, and several new supermarkets.
