Puyo Pop Fever 2, the sequel to the popular Puyo Pop Fever, in Japan as Puyo Puyo Fever (ぷよぷよフィーバー), is a puzzle game. It is scheduled for the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.

Puyo Pop Fever is the latest installment in the popular Puyo Pop (or Puyo Puyo in Japan) puzzle game series. Compile, the original creator of the Puyo Pop series, played no part in the creation of this game, for it has been gone from the video game industry for a while. Sonic Team began this project to keep the series alive, but redesigned the entire package into something of its own, adding new features, new cast characters, and gameplay elements along the way.

[edit] Gameplay information

The new game takes place in Primp Town, home to the magic school of the last game, now used for the game's 9 courses. It also contains a tower (for endless puyo modes), a shop (to buy items, run by Oshare bones, however Rider is seen there as well), a town hall (to change options and save), a museum (for viewing unlocked music, videos, etc.), and a playground (for multiplay). You can explore these areas and talk to the people there, where they may give you items.

The game boasts nine courses, three times that of the original Puyo Puyo Fever. Each of the three main characters (Raffine, Amitie, and Sig) has three courses, each with a different story.

Three save files are allowed, as to track progress for multiple players.

Fever Mode returns, as well a new concept. Using items, you can change the beginning, or even play of the battle. Some items allow you to play as another character. The majority do semi-helpful things, like dumping nuisance puyo on an opponent at the beginning, making attacks more powerful, setting up a chain for you to start with, or starting you with a couple points on your fever counter. Common items can be bought at Oshare bones' shop.

A new color of Puyo (Pink) is introduced in this game that was not in Puyo Puyo Fever.

[edit] Multiplayer Battles

Multiplayer is argued to be the best feature of this game with a near-unanimous opinion among Puyo Pop players, especially in the Nintendo DS version which supports 2 to 8 players, as opposed to the others which only support 2 or 4. In this mode, one can play as any available character.

[edit] Endless

There are several types of Endless Mode, where one can practice Fever Mode, aiming for the highest score. In another, you complete small tasks as they are given. You can also play an original Puyo Pop which gets faster and harder until you lose. Other endless modes are all-new. Including one where nuisance pink puyo (CHU puyo) drop at regular intervals.

[edit] Characters

There are 28 characters in Puyo Puyo Fever 2, where 6 of which are unplayable, and have Cameo roles. Characters such as Popoi and Carbuncle are Cameos in the sense that they are with Ms. Accord and Arle respectively. Reikun, who is the brother of Yuuchan, isn't playable as such, but, like with Popoi and Carbuncle, is used to fight in partnership with Yuuchan. Onion Pixy Girl, Butler, and Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III, are unplayable 'guest' characters.

[edit] Raffine

The stuck up, rude, 1st main character. She was the heroine of the Hara Hara course in Puyo Puyo Fever. She faces a few of the same characters as before in her original quest.

[edit] Amitie

Happy, ditzy girl who wants to be a "wonderfully clever magic user." She is the 2nd of three main characters and was the heroine in the Run Run and Waku Waku courses of the original Puyo Puyo Fever.

[edit] Sig

Sig is a spacey boy. His left eye is red and his left hand is a large red claw. He's the 3rd of three main characters, and is introduced in this game. His magic derives from Blue Magic, and has a connection with Insects. His attacks range from Cyan, Paraiba, Robin's Egg, Celestial and Hydrangea. He is a well balanced character, who is slightly weaker than Raffine outside of Fever, but slightly stronger than Amitie in Fever.

[edit] Accord

Teacher at the magic school. Carries Popoi around with her. Accord no longer uses music for her attacks, with many of them being "-lance" suffixed attacks.

[edit] Akuma

A Giant blue bear doll, whose head is a mask detached from his body. He is as bad as Hohow Bird in the sense he shouts 'Akuma'.

[edit] Arle

Arle, the heroine of the original Puyo Puyo games, is always seen with Carbuncle (Who appeared in Puyo Pop Fever 1 as a secret character). In some of Arle's attacks (such as Heaven Ray), Carbuncle is assisting in the animation. Arle received an in-fever power boost as a modification to the game.

[edit] Baldanders

Baldanders is a not-so-cute, or loveable, dog. He may be seen as a spinoff off of the Frankensteins.

[edit] Lemres

Lemres is a Warlock, and is used in this game to depict a Schezo-style character from the original Puyo Puyo Series. His attacks are very well balanced, and his Japanese voice cast sounds similar to a fusion of Schezo Wegey, and Fye D. Flowright from Tsubasa Chronicle.

[edit] Dongurigaeru

The loveable frog is back in action. Still as daunting as ever, with more of an ambition to try his best to win.

[edit] Feli

Feli is a Dark Witch of the Kemetic and Chronomatic Wizardy era. She is seen as a Gothic Lolita girl. Cute and very strong, her most notable attack is "Chrono Creator", an attack that is used to alter the time and space around the field.

[edit] Frankensteins

They're back, dumber than ever! Both Frankendad and Frankenson form a unique team, and are part of the partnership group (along with Arle and Kaa-Kun, Accord and Popoi, and Yuuchan and Reikun).

[edit] Gogotte

Elfish person who forces his soup upon people. Commonly seen as a girl due to his clothing.

[edit] Hohow Bird

A pink, bespecled know-it-all bird whose favorite words are "HouHou..." ("Mm-HMM!" in the English translations), and various attacks, eg "Mm-HMM KICK!" and the powerful "Mm-HMM BEAM!" A favorite among fans, who are drawn to his "witty" banter, and also the most reviled character among non-fans, who find him quite annoying. Hohow Bird retains his humour and has been known to be as strong as he has been in the previous game.

[edit] Klug

A know-it-all fellow student of Raffine, Sig and Amitie with questionable fashion sense. Arguably one of the most annoying characters in the game, along with the Onion Pixy, Prince of Ocean and Hohow bird. However, he sees a threat in his magic studies and attempts to advance further. Klug himself is a pretty decent character, though he was made much weaker outside of Fever mode as opposed to his strengths in the prequel

[edit] Onion Pixy

Noted for crying as Onion Pixy Girl falls in love with Sig. Onion Pixy is one of the basic characters to fight in this game.

[edit] Oshare bones

Aside from being a usual stereotypically gay skeleton, he runs the item shop! He is still as classy as ever, and still a favourite among classic fans. In this game however, Oshare Bones is the strongest character in Fever (as opposed to Prince of Ocean in the prequel), and with his piece set, allows a skilled player almost limitless regards to Fever Extension and excessive chainbuilding in Fever mode.

[edit] Prince of Ocean

Prince of Ocean is back with a bigger, more annoying ego than before.

[edit] Rider

Still as tentative as ever, just like in the first game.

[edit] Taru Taru

Taru Taru is one of the stronger, midway opponents. He is in love with Raffine, and asks about her at most encounters.

[edit] Yu & Rei (Yuuchan & Reikun)

In the Puyo Puyo Fever character description for Yuuchan, it was said that Yuuchan was trying to find her brother. When Raffine bumps into Yu, she starts to dance. In Fever 2, Yuuchan finds her brother, Reikun, who has purple hair instead of green. The two of them form a Japanese quiz show. Sig is the only one who clears all of their questions. They form one of the few unique partnerships in this game, and are quite effective in Fever mode.

[edit] Onion Pixy Girl

Onion Pixy Girl is one of the three guest characters in Puyo Puyo Fever 2. She falls in love with Sig and makes Onion Pixy cry. She serves a cameo role in the storyline department.

[edit] Butler

Butler is the second of the three guest cameo characters that informs you of things during the game.

[edit] Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III

Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III ("sakana" means fish in Japanese), is the last of the three guest cameo characters. He is the human form of The Prince of Ocean, and guides Sig through his final course. He is also the prince located at the end of Raffine's second course.

[edit] Strange Klug

Strange Klug (Jap:あやしいクルーク. AyashiiKuru-ku in romaji) is the final boss in Puyo Puyo Fever 2. Sega depicted Strange Klug's attire to be the same as Doppelganger Arle's in Puyo Puyo~n. Strange Klug himself, is not a Doppelganger, despite some banter. Instead, he has his own reason for going through the dark stages of magic (known as second degree magic). Each of the different storylines, backed up with all 3 characters, tell a different ending.
