Purcellville is a town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population was 3,584 at the 2000 census.

Purcellville is located at GR1.

Purcellville lies in western Loudoun County, Virginia approximately 9 miles west of the County Seat of Leesburg, Virginia. Just to the west are the Blue Ridge Mountains (visible from many areas of town); to the south Philomont is five miles distant and Middleburg, Virginia is approximately 12 miles away. Lovettsville is approximately 11 miles to the north.
Purcellville is governed by a town council with six seats and a mayor. Three of the seats, and the mayor's seat go before the voters every two years. The Purcellville Town Council, is currently composed of Bob Lazaro Jr. as mayor, along with Steve Varmecky, Greg Wagner, C.J. Walker III, Dr. James Wiley, Tom Priscilla, and Janet Clarke. Janet Clarke was appointed to fill Bob Lazaro's former seat on the council, which was vacated by his election to mayor.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,584 people, 1,253 households, and 956 families residing in the town. The population density was 583.9/km² (1,512.2/mi²). There were 1,292 housing units at an average density of 210.5/km² (545.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 88.92% White, 7.45% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.84% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.78% from other races, and 1.90% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.29% of the population.
There were 1,253 households out of which 45.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.1% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 20.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.28.
In the town the population was spread out with 32.8% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $62,108, and the median income for a family was $69,211. Males had a median income of $50,815 versus $34,808 for females. The per capita income for the town was $24,112. About 2.6% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.3% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.

The town's educational institutions include public and private institutions. Public schools covering kindergarten to twelfth grade include Loudoun Valley High School, Blue Ridge Middle School, Harmony Intermediate School, Emerick and Mountain View Elementary Schools. Patrick Henry College, a private Christian school, is also located in Purcellville.
