Punto (Venezuela)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The punto is a musical sort characteristic of the east of Venezuela, where it is formerly sang along with the galerón and Fulía in the celebration of the velorios de cruz.
In Venezuela, like in other parts of the Caribbean, the punto has received diverse denominations according to the way to sing it. In Venezuela it has been known with the names: punto, punto y llanto, punto cruzado, punto fuerte and punto mampó. Both last, according to the reports of Luis Felipe Ramón y Rivera, practically forgotten, while the punto cruzado and el punto y llanto are easier to find. For its interpretation the mandolin is accompanied with the cuatro and the guitar.
