Punkas is a New Zealand based website dedicated to punk rock, New Wave, ska, hardcore and its related genres of music. It is the main site for the New Zealand scene, which in its understated clean cool attitude, and its untrammelled treatment of germane subject matter in general, has given it an important, unique place in the world of punk and new wave, following in the reputation of the culture of the country itself.

New Zealand music product is always interestingly presented, and people who know the punk website scene in general attribute leadership status to New Zealand sites such as Punkas and NZMetal, the New Zealand Heavy Metal website. In the relatively strange world of punk, new wave and metal, these sites are paragons in the new art form of art/music websites, and are therefore actually influential in a way that is easily noticed by an art historian of the genres involved. Of importance here would be the cool, calm, professional yet completely impassioned and comfortable nature of the presentation of the material that comprises the site. And as is the mode in New Zealand, both are completely worldly and at the same time incredibly folksy.

The site features a forum, a news area, a breakdown of the different local scenes in New Zealand, and has links to other sites, most notably to NZ-positive Australian sites. Punkas has an affinity to the British Columbian scene.

Of note to the casual observer is the site and forum's abiding opposition to fascism. Punkas is also very generous with its criticism of the tumultuous, politically dangerous religious scene in New Zealand. The site is quite politically correct vis a vis Māori issues. All in all Punkas.com is a very positive, very accurate representation of the New Zealand music scene.
