Pulikkodan Narayanan was a Sub-Inspector in Kerala Police who, along with Jayaram Padikkal, allegedly tortured and murdered Rajan, at the Kakkayam police camp in Kerala, during Indian Emergency (1975 - 77). Eachara Warrier recounts in his memoir "Mr. Pulikkodan Narayanan began kicking him in his stomach with his heavy police boots. With a loud cry he fell back and writhed on the floor, then became quiet and motionless." Pulikkodan (his family name) Narayanan was in charge of Perambra police station, and was specifically moved into the squad dealing with the naxalites. Narayanan, Padikkal, and fellow officers of the kakkayam camp were not convicted, for want of evidence, but many other youths interred at the camp have recounted in the Malayalam press horror stories of torture. Pulikkodan Narayanan later retired as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP).
