- Ptolemaida (Greece) - named for the Macedonian Ptolemy who became Ptolemy I Soter
- Acre (Israel) - named for the Macedonian Ptolemy who became Ptolemy I Soter
- Ptolemais Hermiou (Egypt) - Greek colony established by Ptolemy I Soter
And for the historical cities of:
- Ptolemais Theron (African coast of the Red Sea) - established by Ptolemy II Philadelphus
- Ptolemais (Libya) - probably named after Ptolemy III Euergetes
- Crocodilopolis (Egypt) - renamed Ptolemais Euergetis by Ptolemy III Euergetes
Ptolemais was also the name of a daughter of Ptolemy I Soter.
