Ptolemais is the ancient name for the cities of:

• Ptolemaida (Greece) - named for the Macedonian Ptolemy who became Ptolemy I Soter
• Acre (Israel) - named for the Macedonian Ptolemy who became Ptolemy I Soter
• Ptolemais Hermiou (Egypt) - Greek colony established by Ptolemy I Soter

And for the historical cities of:

• Ptolemais Theron (African coast of the Red Sea) - established by Ptolemy II Philadelphus
• Ptolemais (Libya) - probably named after Ptolemy III Euergetes
• Crocodilopolis (Egypt) - renamed Ptolemais Euergetis by Ptolemy III Euergetes

Ptolemais was also the name of a daughter of Ptolemy I Soter.
