PTCRB
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
PTCRB stands for PCS Type Certification Review Board. PTCRB Approval is required for all products entering the North American markets through carrier distribution. The purpose of the PTCRB is to provide the framework within which GSM Mobile Equipment (ME) Type Certification can take place for members of the PTCRB (amongst the members are the most important US network operators).
For regulatory type approval in North America, FCC regulations including SAR and probably UL regulations concerning GSM have to be taken account of. Alternatively, a PCS-1900 mobile manufacturer will be required to comply with the GSM 1900 Type Certification Program, which is organized by GSM operators in North America. The program is maintained by PTCRB.
In order to certify your mobile phone or communication device (especially PCS 1900 type) to work with North America's cellular network, all your device must be PTCRB-approved. This is to ensure and maintain compliance with GSM/GPRS network standards within North America. Consequently, your mobile phone must be PTCRB certified before it can be certified on North American operator's wireless network.
