Pskov Oblast

Pskov Oblast (Russian: Пско́вская о́бласть) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Pskov. The oblast borders the European Union countries of Estonia and Latvia, as well as Belarus. It is the westernmost federal subject of mainland Russia (i.e. excluding the exclave of Kaliningrad Oblast). Its major cities are the administrative center Pskov (pop. 202,000) and Velikiye Luki (pop. 104,000).
Area 55,300 km². Population is estimated at 746,652 in 2004, down from 846,000 in 1989. As of the 2002 Census, the number was 760,810.
The Governor is Mikhail Varfolomeyevich Kuznetsov.
