Psion (Saga of the Skolian empire)

Psion is a term describing those with empathic and in some cases telepathic abilities, in the Saga of the Skolian Empire books by Catherine Asaro.
Psions can detect the emotions, and even individual thoughts depending on the strength of the psion (as determined by their KAB rating and the proximity of those around them. Psions can funnel emotions of a sender back to them, thus creating a feedback loop which manifest typically as heightened states of love and affection.
Psions are also susceptible to the emotional suffering of those around them, and can suffer emotional scars from other psions who project their pain naturally.
Psions are trained to put up barriers around their minds, both to prevent projecting onto others, and to protect themselves from infiltration and manipulation by Aristos. Providers, however, have no such defences, as many are bred into slavery by the Aristos.
The stronger the psion, the more they project and are affected by the thoughts of those around them; and the fewer there are. They are very few psions with a KAB rating of 10 or more.
The strongest psions are members of the Ruby Dynasty, ruling family of Skolia. Their KAB rating is so high, that it overcomes any numerical value. Psions with such high rating are called Rhon.
