The Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) group of schools was established by Mrs. Y.G.Parthasarathy in 1958. The group has four branches in Chennai, Tamil Nadu - in K.K.Nagar,Nungambakkam, Tirumalai Pillai Road and in G.S.T Road near the Chennai Airport.The school received the prestigious ISO 9001-2000 for its quality education.

The K.K.Nagar branch is the biggest, with students enrolled from kindergarten up to high school. The Tirumalai Pillai road branch has students from kindergarten till 8th grade. The Nungambakkam Branch is a high school branch. The G.S.T road branch is similar to Tirumalai Pillai branch.

The school has been consistently placed in the top 10 in any poll of the best schools in India including a survey conducted by the Outlook magazine in 2001.

In 1958, the PSBB School in Nungambakkam was established by an enterprising group of housewives under the auspices of the Nungambakkam Ladies Recreation Club. The school had an enrolment of 13 students in a thatched shed on the terrace of the residence of the Dean & Director of the school, Dr. (Mrs.) Y.G. Parthasarathy. Today the school has three branches with more than 8000 students and around 500 staff members.

A year after its inception in 1959, the school was fortunate enough to have a campus of its own and was shifted to the present premises in Nungambakkam following the Madras Matriculation System, a prestigious unit of the Madras University. The school later extended its branches with the creation of T.P.Road Junior School in 1971, as an annexe to the main school in Nungambakkam. In 1978, this school was affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

In 1976 another branch of the PSBB School, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education was started in a residential area of K.K.Nagar. The sprawling, sylvan 5-acre surroundings of this school created the ideal ambiance for learning. The K.K.Nagar Branch initially had four sections of every class from Pre-Kindergarten to the tenth grade. Today it has a total strength exceeding 5123 students with ten sections in each of these classes.

The K.K.Nagar branch has a swimming pool, a cricket+soccer field,an outdoor basketball court,3 tennis courts and indoor sports facilities that include table tennis, carrom and chess. The school has 3 libraries-one each for the elementary, middle and high schools. It also has 4 computers in each class till middle school, and high-school students haven been provided with one LCD-TV in each class. The school has 4 computer labs in total as well. The T.P.Road branch has one outdoor basketball court and a swimming pool, along with badminton courts and table-tennis courts. The T.P road branch has a library and computer labs and is similar to the K.K.Nagar branch, complete with computers and plasma or color televisions in each class.

The PSBB opened a branch in Bangalore in 2005 in association with the Brigade group in the name of Brigade PSBB shcool; the association could not be continued due to dispute between Brigade group and the PSBB; the parents association of the Brigade PSBB stood by PSBB and helped in opening of PSBB branch in Bangalore through the Learning Leadership Academy, (LLA) from the academic year 2006-07; the school is called PSBB LL Academy and is situated on Bannerghatta Road, in Bangalore.
