[edit] Hi there
Hi! Just responding to the message you left on my talk page. I am definitely not the real Lauryn Hill, so I am unable to answer your test question. The username I chose for Wikipedia is unrelated to LH, and having read the guidelines on usernames, I don't think mine is invalid or inappropriate. As for editing articles about one's own person, the edits I contributed to the Lauryn Hill page were minor, for punctuation and proper grammar...but like I said, I'm not her, anyway. Have a good one! [edit] A ghost on IRC
I lost my connection which made me a ghost on IRC. It takes about 20 minutes or so to clear, so I can't get back on until it does. I am still available for message here though...and hope you are logged in of course.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Software_development_process.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Software_development_process.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] DocBook export
Did that one already :-) If you have your own MediaWiki installation, you can use this as a Special Page via extension (from the SVN, "wiki2xml" module, "php" directory). On your local installation, you can also have it convert DocBook to HTML or PDF. --Magnus Manske 07:02, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request for Mediation
A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Template:Anarchism, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible.
The above request has been filed by User:Zadanian, who seems to be having some difficulty with the filing requirements. The Mediation Committee requires all parties to be notified, and since he did not do so on filing the request, I'm notifying you on behalf of the Mediation Committee in my capacity as chairman.

[edit] Owner-Free File System
Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thunder. You probably don't have to put that page up for a merger time since both are brand new. I would suggest just add that history section into the Owner Free Filing System page and put a redirect on the other one. IndyLawSteve 02:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Patricia Telesco
I saw that you had tagged Patricia Telesco for speedy deletion. I visited the Library of Congress catalog at http://catalog.loc.gov and confirmed that she had in fact written several books. I added entries for those books under "References", and because of that information I removed the speedy tag. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 18:35, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Clarification about a sentense in your article on your blog.
Hey Mr. Swartz. I'd like to request that you please clarify this sentense in your blog post:
- "One administrator told me how he spends his time scrubbing Wikipedia clean of unflattering facts about people who call the head office to complain.".
That sentense sounds to me as if the wikipedia front office is kowtowing to anybody who comes around requesting that unflattering comments be removed. In reality, it's poorly unsourced unflattering (and equally unsourced flattering) matterial, which is not what afformentioned cabal^H^H^H^H^Hadmin really does ;)
Respectuly yours,
George Marselis, User:Project2501a.

- Hi. Are you arguing this isn't the case? One could argue about whether such a thing is a good idea or not, but I think it's pretty on-the-record that Wikipedia policy is to remove unflattering comments when people request it, with the possible exception of carefully sourced ones (haven't heard of any cases where someone called to complain about an unflattering but well-sourced claim). This shouldn't be surprising since every living person's talk page says "Negative material, especially if potentially libelous, must be removed immediately if it is unsourced or poorly sourced." Furthermore, WP:OFFICE says "even with the invalid complaints, there is a short-term action which can and should be taken as a courtesy in order to soothe feelings and build a better encyclopedia in the long run." [edit] Image:Armand van helden.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Armand van helden.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 15:32, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Denis Leary.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Denis Leary.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Oden 11:15, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Brian de Palma (director).jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Brian de Palma (director).jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
Thank you. Oden 07:01, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
