Talk:Prophase
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maybe there's a contradiction btw this article & Mitosis. Latter says under item "Prophase" that it is the centrosomes that recruit the spindles, whereas this article says it is the centrioles. I assume that the text in the article on mitosis is more accurate, but maybe I'm wrong - somebody here with detailed knowledge in biology?
[edit] Actually the correct term is:
Centromere: The central portion of a pair of sister chromatids Centrioles: Organelles which emit spindle fibers, also known as microtubules Centrosomes: A much less common synonym for Centriole well this is wrong
[edit] Either is OK - further explanation given in linked articles
Both the terms Centromere and Centriole are, loosely speaking, correct; quote from the latter article: "Two centrioles are arranged perpendicularly and surrounded by further proteins (the pericentriolar material) to form the centrosome.". Vermiculus 14:57, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
