Provider Independent Address Space (PI-addresses) are Internet Protocol addresses assigned by the Registries directly to an end-user organization, without going through an Internet Service Provider. It offers the end-user the opportunity to change service providers without changing addresses, but creates problems for address aggregation as described in Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR).
