The album was released in the second quarter of 2004. The album included 5 singles: "Anapantites Kliseis", "Treli Kardia", "Katse Kala", "Anditheseis" and "Stin Kardia Mou Mono Thlipsi"; which were big hits for Elena. After the Eurovision Paparizou re-released the album with a new C.D which contained 11 new tracks that included the Eurovision songs. The album was titled Protereotita:Euro Edition. At the end of 2005 Elena re-released the album for the third and final time, this time it had all the songs from Protereotita and the Euro Edition and this time the songs from the "Mambo!" C.D single.

The first C.D single to be released from the original album Protereotita was Anapandites Kliseis. Anapandites Kliseis was double A-side single with Treli Kardia. The single peaked at number 1 for a successful 2 weeks. After the release of the C.D single a number of singles (video clips) followed throughout the year. The first being Antithesis then Katse Kala then the last being Stin Kardia Mou Mono Thlispi from the original Protereotita tracklist.

Protereotita was a very successful album in Greece and peaked at number 1 for eight weeks. This was Elena's most successful album to date in Greece as a solo artist. The success of the album continued to grow as Elena released singles (video clips from the album throughout the year of 2004 up to Elena was picked for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kiev which she won.
