Protectograph

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A protectograph is a simple machine designed to assist a company, bank or induvdual in writing a check. The protectograph is used to leave a numerical or written value impression in the payment amount field of a check that is very difficult to duplicate or alter. This is accomplished by the machine applying downward force on the check and leaving very small shreads in the paper. Protectographs have been in use since the early 1800s, and are still widely used today.
