Prosper Nicholas Trebeck (1823-1904) was born in Calcutta, West Bengal, India August 30 1823. He moved to Victoria, Australia circa 1841 and by 1842 along with Charles Beal, he had built the first Barwon Inn which is now attributed as the founding structure for the town of Winchelsea, Victoria.
Prosper Trebeck's father, Charles Trebeck, was a solicitor by trade and the only brother of George Trebeck (a solicitor by trade and as a geographer was second in command to William Moorcroft from 1819 to 1825). It is unclear who his mother was however she is noted as "V Kane" on Prosper's death certificate.
In 1855 Trebeck married Charles Beal's sister, Elizabeth, in the church he helped build in Winchelsea before eventually moving to New South Wales, Australia where he lived for the remainder of his life. According to his death certificate, Trebeck died as a result of Mitral regurgitation Syncope, a condition he suffered from for the final seven years of his life. Prosper Trebeck was buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Waverley, New South Wales, Australia on December 27, 1904.
